Orengo versus Oduol fight

Orengo versus Oduol fight

James Orengo, the governor of Siaya, has been accused of violating the Constitution and the rights of deputy governor William Oduol. Three Kenyans have petitioned the High Court to deem him unsuitable to hold public office.

Peter Odhiambo, Erick Onyango, and Elizabeth Akinyi, the petitioners, brought the action under a certificate of urgency, claiming that Siaya County is now grossly violating the 2010 Constitution.

The petitioners asked for the reinstatement of Mr. Oduol’s privileges and allowances as well as permission for him to carry out his constitutional obligations. They also asked for the provision of an official residence or housing allowances in accordance with the Constitution’s provisions.

Mr. Oduol and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) are identified as the first and second interested parties, while Mr. Orengo and the Siaya County Government are designated as the first and second respondents on the petition.

Additionally, the petitioners ask the court to require the Siaya County government to compensate Mr. Oduol for general damages resulting from wrongdoing.

In addition to having his privileges taken away, the trio asserts that Mr. Oduol’s office lacks water and electricity, which has humiliated him.

Part of the 31-page document states that the first respondent’s actions “humiliates and lowers the dignity and stature of the office he holds as the Chairman of the Deputy Governor’s Forum in Kenya.”

In a telephone conversation with The Nation, the petitioners’ attorney Edward Nyakeriga claimed that Mr. Oduol has been degraded and humiliated by the recent treatment he has received.

The deputy governor’s security has been removed, leaving him exposed, and he is not using the chase car to which he is entitled. He is a public employee who must carry out his constitutional responsibilities, the attorney argued.

The petitioners also ask the court to order the EACC to start an investigation into the county boss’s actions and those of the officers who report to him, as well as to start criminal and civil cases against them.

The petition is timely given the conflict between Mr. Orengo and Mr. Oduol.
