Ruto Raila deal suffers a blow as mps defy dialogue committee , Make changes to elctoral bill
Having been urged to implement the national dialogue committee by former prime minister Raila Odinga and president William Ruto, members of parliament have instead defied the orders as per the latest reports.
As reported by a report covered on Thursday’s People Daily publication, MPs have allegedly defied orders from dialogue committee by making changes to what was agreed upon during the dialogue between Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government and Azimio la Umoja one Kenya Coalition.
As per the report, the justice and legal committee of the national assembly has revealed plans of making amendments despite the political agreement that was initiated.
Among amendments that the committee is seeking includes term limits of executive committee, period in which election audit will be done and delimitation of boundaries.
This comes despite push from Azimio la Umoja one Kenya Coalition’s chief Raila Odinga for the implementation of the NADCO’s final report.
It should be noted that the dialogue committee proposed audit of elections, creation of office of Prime cabinet secretary and that of official opposition leader.
Arguably, this is a major setback for president William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga who were seeking to have the bill implemented as agreed upon at Bomas of Kenya.
