Osimhen suffered a facial injury, in a clash of heads with Milan Skriniar during a Serie A match between Napoli and Inter Milan on November 21, 2021.
The mask has now become symbolic for the Forward, a sort of trademark such that it has become really popular among children in Naples.
In an exclusive interview with BRL, the 25 year-old spoke on the essence of the facial equipment, revealing, he would wear it for the rest of his playing career.
“I will wear the mask as long as I keep playing, it is important. I actually have a few screws that passed through my jaw inside my mouth, and another in my eye socket till date,” he stated.
“During the last match I played, against Cagliari. When I headed the ball, I had blood (on my face) because the goalkeeper hit my face and there was blood, even with the mask on. It’s too dangerous for me without using it. So I have to keep on using it.”
Victor Osimhen would be looking to lead Nigeria to their first win at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, when they face host Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday.
