Nairobi – Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has explained why he was not in Parliament during the voting of the Finance Bill 2023.
The contentious Finance Bill sailed through after 176 MPs voted in its favour while 81 voted against it.
In a video posted on social media, Babu, who is affiliated with the Azimio camp, said he thought voting on the bill would take place next week.

He explained he was not in the precincts of Parliament as he was with his lawyer preparing for his case, whose defence hearing will take tomorrow.

Babu stated he was informed that the voting of the bill would take place next week, but Speaker Moses Wetang’ula changed his mind unexpectedly.
“While at my lawyer’s office, that is when I realised that the Speaker changed and made another ruling that voting was to take place today. So many members were depending on the fact that voting would take place after Tuesday next week and that explains why so many members from Azimio missed,” he said.
