Oklahoma – A family in Kenya has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of their 45-year-old kin in the United States of America (USA).

Fredrick Opudo Oballa was found dead on May 29, in his apartment in Oklahoma State in the South Central region of the North American country.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Oballa’s brother, Athanas Obango, said he was reported missing and after his unsuccessful search, police broke into his house, where they found his body.

The officers then contacted his American wife, who, in turn, informed his Kenyan family of the death.

Obango said after an autopsy, the officers ruled out any foul play or drug abuse. It was established that he was suffering from diabetes unknowingly and died after his sugar levels dropped.

His body was transferred to a morgue in Texas, awaiting paperwork before it can be released to the family for interment. Obango said they were informed the process will take 10 days.

“After they have finished the paperwork, we will schedule a burial date. We are currently fundraising to repatriate his body. I want to urge well-wishers to support us. If you wish to support us in any way, you can reach out to me at +254723907046,” said Obango.

The deceased went to the USA in 2003 through a football scholarship offered by the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO).

“My brother was now a pastor. He had a church here in Kenya, Hope International Church, and he was to come back in a few months to officially open it but it is the will of God,” he added.

Apart from Obango, he was a brother to former Gor Mahia Midfielder Boniface Oballa Ochina, former Re-Union FC Midfielder Joseph Oballa, and Former KTN journalist Christine Pila Oballa.

Kenyans in the USA announced they will hold his send-off ceremony at Oklahoma City before his body is transported back to the country.
