Ruto sacks Health PS

Both Health PS Josephine Mburu and the entire Kenya Medical Supplies Authority board, including its chairman Daniel Rono, have been fired by President William Ruto.

 

Following claims of a scandal involving the distribution of mosquito nets, Ruto promised to take audacious action on Sunday.

 

Irungu Nyakera has been chosen by Ruto to lead the KEMSA board at the same time.

CS health For her part, Susan Nakhumicha reorganized the Kemsa board and selected new members.

Hezborn Oyieko Omollo, Jane Masiga, Jane Nyagaturi Mbatia, and Bernard Kipkirui Better are the new members.

Nyakera has already been appointed as the new chair of the Kemsa board by President Ruto.

The new board members have been gazetted by CS Nakhumicha in the same Gazette notice.

At the same time, Nakhumicha fired Terry Ramadhani, the CEO of Kemsa, and named Andrew Mutava Mulwa as the new acting CEO.

Martin Wamwea, Lenson Kariuki, Pauline Duya, Livingstone Njuguna, and Charles Kariuki Chege, who worked for the Ministry of Health’s National Malaria Program, were also suspended by the health CS.

Justus Kinoti, Cosmas Rotich, and Anthony Chege were also expelled by Nakhumicha when they were working for Kemsa.

 

On Sunday, Ruto said he had begun investigating the issues in Kemsa at a roundtable discussion with media at State House.

 

“I’m taking action in this regard. You’ll observe outcomes. I want to promise you that I will clean up KEMSA no matter what it takes or how much it costs.

 

Kemsa continues to be in the news due to corruption and poor management.

The first saga was about some Sh7 billion intended to buy personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essential health facilities at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic and ended up in the pockets of a few well-connected individuals.

 

It produced the corrupt people who were referred to as ‘Covid Millionaires’.

 

They were accused of making money at the expense of fellow Kenyans who needed to be protected from the deadly virus.
