President Ruto to address Pan-African

This week, President William Ruto is scheduled to speak at the Pan-African Parliament’s third summit on climate policy and equity, which will be held in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

The two-day summit’s objective is to energize a critical mass of stakeholders in order to catalyze widespread support for just, equitable, locally-led, and science-based decisions in the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and climate action.

The Summit will examine the contentious issue of just transition and produce recommendations to direct member countries in a direction that is in line with African countries, in addition to assessing the COP27 and overall progress made by Africa in implementing the NDCs since the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015.

President Ruto urged the Pan African Parliament (PAP) to represent Africa on problems like intra-African trade, climate change, democracy, and good governance in April.

The President of the Pan-African Parliament, Chief Fortune Charumbira, requested that the continental legislative body play a significant role in the implementation of the Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which offers tremendous opportunities for exponential economic growth through trade and investment. The meeting took place at State House Nairobi.

The African Union’s theme for 2023, “Year of Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation,” is in accordance with the AfCFTA’s implementation.

Given that Africa has the largest undiscovered reserves of clean energy, President Ruto said it was time for the continent to stop using fossil fuels and embrace renewable energy sources.

President Azali Assoumani of the Comoros, who also serves as Chairperson of the African Union, officially opened the second regular session of the Sixth Pan-African Parliament on Monday, May 15. He pledged the support of African Heads of State and Government for the full operation of the continental legislative body.
