Ruto, Raila shake hands

After their first public encounter since the general election in August 2022, the two shook hands.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi are also present.

Jayne Kihara, a member of parliament from Naivasha, begged Mr. Odinga to give the administration some time to keep its pledges.

“Uwache serikali ifanye kazi, usirudi kwa Barbara,” she exclaimed. Raila nakuomba.

Kwenya Thuku, an MP for Kinangop, echoed the sentiment and urged Mr. Odinga to give the bicameral team an opportunity.

The mourners applauded the two as they finished.

Mr. Odinga criticized the administration for failing to lower the flag to half-staff in Mukami’s honor.

Additionally, he urged the government to rethink any taxes that were being considered, citing the high cost of living.

The church shouldn’t be punished because of two cult leaders, Mr. Gachagua argued in defense of the institution.

Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi’s death as an independence hero was also brought up, and he said his burial should be located.

“Hawa wanasema wanajua pahali Kimathi alizikwa, tunakuomba uwapatie nafasi watuoneshe, ili tumpatie mazishi ya heshima,” he uttered.

For his part, President Ruto declared that the nation will work to find Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi’s grave and give him a respectable send-off.

The Kenya Kwanza government is defended by Mr. Gachagua against accusations of tribalism.

“I have read from the newspapers that some people are saying that we (Kikuyus) are many in government. There is no problem with us being the majority in government. We are also many in prison so they should also say the same. We made a conscious decision to vote for President Ruto and we are asking him to continue employing more of our members,” he said.
