Bruno Fernandes Makes Bizarre Claim About Manchester United’s Ambitions This season
Bruno Fernandes made a bizarre claim about fans’ expectations this season
United won the Carabao Cup in February, but are yet to secure a Champions League spot amid pressure from Liverpool
Fernandes claimed fans at the start of the season did not believe the club would be competing for a top six finish
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes recently made an interesting claim about fans’ expectations at the start of the season.
The Red Devils, who finished in sixth place last season, currently sit in fourth place but nothing is guaranteed as the season comes to a close.
While there has been considerable improvement under Erik Ten Hag, Fernandes has sensationally claimed no one thought they would be competing for Champions League football this term.
“We want Champions League football. This club deserves it, this club has to be in that position.” He told Sky Sports.
“I think these players deserve to be there, too, because we have such a great team that has been doing a great job this season when no one thought United could be fighting for the top four.”
“We knew that we could be there, we know that we could be even higher in the league. We had our moments and that’s why we’re in the position of fighting for the top four and not bigger things.”
United ended their trophy drought this season as the won the Carabao Cup at the expense of top-four rivals Newcastle United.
There is a chance Erik Ten Hag could secure a domestic double , as his side prepare to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on June 3.
As far as their top four ambitions are concerned, United need nine points from their remaining four games to ensure they finish above Liverpool.
