Kabarak University recovers Facebook
The account that had been hijacked by cybercriminals has been recovered, according to a statement released by University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry Kiplagat on Tuesday, May 9.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the attack damaged the University’s online reputation and created a serious risk of losing stakeholders’ and the public’s trust.
“I am quite pleased to announce that the University’s highly qualified Cyber security team and experts from Meta Inc worked tirelessly and deployed a wide range of cyber security measures to recover the Facebook account within the shortest time possible,” stated Kiplagat.

The VC also mentioned how the team was adamant about succeeding and reestablishing the institution’s online presence despite the recovery process taking many sleepless hours. He continued by saying that the recovery procedure illustrated how crucial it is to have a strong cybersecurity framework in place.
Prof. Kiplagat stated that the university is looking forward to a more extended partnership with Meta Inc, particularly in the area of training to boost their cyber security measures and increase their capacity to stop and mitigate future assaults.
“I want to make it clear that Kabarak University has not created any new account. Any account created in the name of Kabarak University is a pseudo account by cybercriminals aimed at tainting the name of the institution,” Prof Kiplagat told the Nation on phone.
“We have reached out to Facebook in an effort to recover the university’s account. We’ve forwarded this case to the concerned authorities and the action will be taken,” he further revealed without giving details.
The giant firm Meta has business operations in Kenya, but it doesn’t have a physical office, as its local employees work remotely.
The company owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, among other products and services.
