Gachagua seeks supplier of seafood
A request for the provision of “seafood” prompted discussion online over a tender notice issued by the Office of the Deputy President on Tuesday morning.
On May 9, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Twitter over the situation, saying the DP had the wrong priorities.
“Bash Kuruka Pale Annex, Harambee Avenue. Regarding the proposed taxes on hair products, Sifuna wrote, “Unalipa tax ya weave ndio mtu amezoea mtura akule seafood.”

Kenyans on Twitter responded to the message in a variety of ways, with some criticizing the DP and others supporting him.
“Hii serikali itatumaliza,” one user identifying himself as JM replied, in support of the senator.
“Kwani time ya Uhuru walikuwa wanasupply managu?” an Aaron Mutai sarcastically replied, defending Gachagua’s office.
“Eti mtura… hadi crabs,” Humphrey Mwamba chimed in.
“Sasa seafood ni kitu ya kukukasirisha?” NJ Joan posed to the senator. “It’s not that expensive.”
Later, Sifuna would describe Gachagua as “Kenya’s Marie Antoinette.”
He stated, “He is putting out tenders for lobsters and prawns at a time when the majority of Kenyans can hardly afford unga.
The Senate deputy minority whip claimed that the seafood tender included the provision of lobsters and prawns, but The news was unable to independently confirm this.
Beef, hog, lamb, and goat are among the additional goods included in the tender notice’s “Supply of Meat and Meat Products” section. Like many of the other tenders included in the notice issued in neighborhood daily, this one is available to everyone.
A bipartisan committee made up of 14 parliamentarians, including Sifuna, is investigating the claims of the opposition Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya group, which include the exorbitant cost of living. The senator has been outspoken against unga’s price, claiming that it would be a deal-breaker in negotiations.
