Why I Withdrew from Bipartisan Talks

Eldas MP Adan Keynan has denied being forced to leave from a bipartisan negotiations group tasked with resolving differences between the administration and the opposition.

Mr Keynan represented President William Ruto’s Kwanya Kwanza alliance, which has clashed with Raila Odinga’s Azimion la Umoja opposition coalition over a variety of issues, including the high cost of living

Azimio contested Keynan’s appointment to Kenya Kwanza’s seven-member delegation, claiming he belongs to their camp since he is a member of the Jubilee party which is allied to Azimio la Umoja.

Keynan’s appointment to Kenya Kwanza’s seven-person delegation was challenged by Azimio, who claimed he belonged to their camp because he is a member of the Jubilee party, which is associated with Azimio la Umoja.

Raila and his team, which includes Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, have been holding protests to pressure the government to decrease living costs and open the electoral commission’s servers for investigations into allegations that the August 2022 elections were tainted.

Raila also questioned the process of selecting new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners, claiming that all political stakeholders must be involved in order to have an impartial elections team.

The congressman was elected on a Jubilee Party platform, and his selection to represent the Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza team was heavily criticized by the Azimio la Umoja alliance.

He stated that specific issues must be addressed through legislative revisions, constitutional reforms, or policy formation, promising Kenyans that critical issues will be handled.

On Wednesday, May 3, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungw’ah and his Senate counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot announced that Saku MP Ali Rasso Dido would replace Eldas legislator as Kenya Kwanza representative in the bipartisan committee.

The Azimio had sworn not to participate in the discussions until Keynan either resigned or was replaced by Kenya Kwanza.
