Night Drama As 28 High School Boys And Girls Booked A lodging In Embu Town ,Drinking In Bar Arrested.

Twenty-eight students from Embu county have been arrested and taken into police custody when caught red-handed drinking alcohol and dancing in bars within the town-police reports.

Embu East sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Jane Waruinge affirm the incident saying the security officers stormed several bars following a tip-off and found the students enjoying drinks as they danced.

Police said the suspects includes the three Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates, who were frog-marched to the nearby Runyenjes Police Station for questioning.

The other students, aged between 16 and 18 were having a party in a booked lodge when neighbors tipped police officers after seeing the students entering the club with uniforms.

The police arrived at the club immediately and were shocked to find used condoms and bottles of alcohol. Two of them managed to escape before police arrested their colleagues.

“We arrested the students aged between 14 and 19. The students, who are in Form Two, Form Three and Form Four, were in different bars and we had to apprehend them for questioning,” she said.

“We are going to question them one by one in front of their parents before we can release them. They will also be given bond. We are also going to interrogate the owners of the house before we prefer charges against them,” one of the officers added.

The members of public who were present during the arrest accused the learners of indiscipline, adding that they would be subjected to counselling before being released to their parents.

“Indiscipline among the school-going children should be curbed. Learners are supposed to be at home or in schools but not in bars,” they said.

The officers further said that some complained during the arrest, saying that they were only celebrating birthday party in the room before going back to home after school closed.

One of the students told us that they only wanted to celebrate birthday party for their colleague before they could disperse to their various homes. They, however, did not tell us why they were out of school at that time, yet they are boarders. We called their parents, who came for them.”
