For All Kenyans As Education Cs Confirms That Goverment Will No longer Fund public Universities.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has today said the government of President William Ruto will no longer fund public universities and colleges.

The CS has noted that public universities and colleges must prepare to generate their own-sourced revenue to fund their operations.

He was speaking at Dedan Kimathi University in Nyeri County when he said that all public universities and colleges that relied on the government for funding should find ways of moving from that.

He noted that Education in the country is one of the sectors that eat much into the budget of the country

“We are encouraging they MUST generate their own revenues because the government is not going to fund them more. In Kenya Education takes 25.9 per cent … so we have to find some other ways of creating and generating revenue for universities, they have to look at other revenue streams,” said the Education CS.

His remarks could mean the universities and colleges collect more from students to run their functions, a clear indication Kenyans will have to dig deeper into their pockets to finance the education of their children.
